A Guide to APAP Machines and Masks

APAP or Automatic Positive Airway Pressure device is used for automatically tuning the minimum amount of pressure that should be delivered to a patient for maintaining a regular and un-obstructed airway, while constantly measuring the resistance offered by the patient. Thereby, the APAP machine enables the doctors to determine the exact pressure to administer the patient and is also provided to the patients for home care.

How to set the APAP machine?

The APAP machine is generally set by a professional technician who has all the details and data about the patient sleep studies or the machine would be fine-tuned for the specific and particular needs of the patient. One can also change the settings of the APAP machine by simply activating the setup menu, of which the access is generally restricted to the patient. Moreover, a lot of caution is to be taken while changing the settings of the machine as a wrong move could render the machine ineffective due to the loss of calibration.
How to use an APAP machine?
Using an APAP device is simple and only needs to attach the hoses to the machine and choose the right face mask. It is very important to test the machine before using it in the position one regularly sleeps so as to avoid any further complications while actually using the machine.
